GENERAL INFORMATION
Superior Sailing: The 22 islands of the Apostle Island National Lakeshore provide over a thousand square miles of crystal clear, deep water with very few navigational hazards. Stay over night in one of the scenic anchorages or return to Madeline Island Marina to enjoy onshore activities. For the more experienced, take an extended passage to Black River Harbor, Isle Royale with it's wildlife or the Canadian North Shore. Whatever your destination, Superior Sailing is an experience beyond compare.
Madeline Island Marina: Adjoining the quaint village of LaPointe, the marina is walking distance from gourmet restaurants, stores, Native American museum and golf course. Easily accessible by car via the ferry or by private plane on Madeline Island's own lighted airstrip (airport pickup is our pleasure). Madeline Island Marina is a full service facility with dockside hookup for water and electricity. Showers and ships store are located in the marina complex.

What To Bring: Your charter yacht is equipped with all navigation and safety gear to sail the Islands. Bedding and towels are not included. Bring food, sleeping bags, pillows and all personal gear required for your comfort. Some additional gear may be required for charters leaving the 50 mile limit. Check with the Charter Master when planning your trip.
Qualifications: Determination of a skipper's sailing and boat handling skills is necessary for your safety as well as insurance requirements. First time charterer's are required to provide a sailing experience inventory. If. when boarding. the charterer does not appear qualified the Charter Master may require a checkout cruise with a captain aboard at the charterer's expense.
Boarding: Courtesy boarding is a chance to "get to know" your charter yacht and its equipment. Yacht check out will be the morning of the first sailing day.
Fishing Charters: Fishing the waters of the Apostle Islands is an experience for all. The trout are great catching and eating. Our licensed guides will take you aboard a 31' Unifite to where the fish are biting. Trips are 1/2 day, full day and overnight. Arrangements can be made for a shore lunch of your fresh catch. Lunch and dinner cruises are also available for the non fisherman. Contact the Charter Master for rates.
Captained Charters: You can experience the adventure of sailing the Apostle Islands even if you have no sailing background. United States Coast Guard licensed captains are provided as a rate of $25.00 per hour, $175.00 per day, $225.00 overnight for several of the yachts in the fleet. Captained charters are available for daily or extended trips. Cruises with a captain aboard allows beginning sailors to join a group of like-minded people to enjoy the thrills of sailing and exploring the Apostle Islands, Duluth or Isle Royale. Captained charters are also an excellent alternative to bareboat charter when entertaining clients.
Sailing Instructions: AIYCA provides sailing instruction for the beginner or experienced sailor.
Basic Sailing Theory: Classroom and hands on experience covering rules of the road, boat handling and sail management.
Bareboat Qualifications: Teaches seamanship, operation under power, safe docking and anchoring practices and sail handling.
Catamaran Sailing: For the certified bareboat skipper, a one day minimum course for the operation of these unique, sleek and roomy vessels. Required course for the bareboat chartering of a catamaran.
